Entity Powers and Duties, Activity Summary

The purpose of this advisory board is to advise the Commissioner on how best to distribute grant funds to county attorney offices, law enforcement agencies, neighborhood and community organizations or businesses for the prevention of auto thefts. These agencies can apply to receive the grant money and the Commissioner of Commerce, in consultation with the Commissioner of Revenue, develop criteria for the fair distribution of grant money. 

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

This board also develops and sponsors the implementation of statewide plans and strategies to combat auto theft, improve auto theft laws and provide a forum for identification of critical problems for persons dealing with auto theft. This board coordinates the development, adoption and implementation of plans, programs and strategies for interagency cooperation related to auto theft enforcement. This board also audits the plans and programs, assesses the scope of the problem, analyzes methods to combat auto theft and car hijacking. The funds are intended to provide financial support to reduce incidents, provide equipment and programs to reduce incidents of auto theft, and provide techniques and educate people about the common methods of auto theft and how best to avoid auto theft.
