Position Description
The Council must work for the implementation of economic, social, legal, and political equality of Latinos by advising and informing the Governor's office and State Legislature and government in the legislative and policy making process. Of the Governor's 11 appointments, the council must include one member representing each of the state's congressional districts and three members appointed at-large.
Minnesota's 8th congressional district covers the northeastern part of Minnesota. It is anchored by Duluth, the state's fifth-largest city. It also includes most of the Mesabi & Vermilion iron ranges, and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in the Superior National Forest. The district is best known for its mining, agriculture, tourism, and shipping industries. See map here.
Council members advise and help set direction and strategy for the Council. They act as ambassadors, representing their respective constituencies. Board meetings are quarterly, and usually in St. Paul. Meeting remotely is now encouraged. Council members may request per diem for attending quarterly meetings. Mileage will be compensated for members who need to drive to meeting location.
