BOARD/COMMISSION:  Launch Minnesota Advisory Board

A minimum of seven members must be from the private sector representing business; and at least two members but no more than three members must be from government and higher education. At least three of the members of the advisory board shall be from greater Minnesota and at least three members shall be minority group members.

Appointees shall represent a range of interests, including entrepreneurs, large businesses, industry organizations, investors, and both public and private small business service providers.

The Commissioner of DEED, or his/her designee, is an ex-officio member of the Board.

Launch Minnesota is a new initiative to encourage and support the development of new private sector technologies. Launch Minnesota will serve as an entry point to the state's innovation ecosystem and provide business development and financial assistance to spur growth. The initiative will partner across multiple organizations to deliver training, promote activities for entrepreneurs and investors and conduct outreach across the state to engage and include willing partners and interested entrepreneurs and small businesses.

The Advisory Board will provide direction and support for DEED and Launch MN staff and other organizations in providing education, training and services to entrepreneurs and small businesses to grow the innovation economy in Minnesota. The Advisory Board will advise on criteria for grant programs prior to opening application periods. The Advisory Board will also receive, review and recommend proposals for grants to the Commissioner of DEED for consideration and awards.

The Advisory Board will also consider other models and develop a strategic plan for moving the innovation support functions for this initiative outside of state government to a new or existing non-profit or public-private partnership. The Advisory Board will assist with reporting by December 31, 2022 and December 31, 2023.
