Entity Powers and Duties, Activity Summary
The Board investigates allegations of misconduct by Minnesota judges and other judicial officers and recommends judicial discipline to the Supreme Court, including censure, suspension, retirement, or removal of judges. The Board also educates the judiciary and the public on the role of the Board on Judicial Standards and on the Code of Judicial Conduct.

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

In 2024, the Board received a total of 987complaints, summarily dismissed 934 complaints, reviewed 49 complaints at board meetings, authorized investigations of 26 complaints, issued discipline against five judges and filed a formal complaint against one judge. The Board also issued eight letters of caution to judges regarding their conduct to point out areas in need of improvement.  In addition, the Executive Secretary issued nearly 150 informal advisory opinions to individual judges at their request.  The Board engaged in outreach and education for judges at bench meetings, seminars and conferences.  On June 12, 2024, the Board hosted a half-day seminar on judicial electon law for candidates for judicial office, including judges who were seeking re-election, challengers, and candidates for open seats.
