Membership
  • The members of JJAC must have training, experience or special knowledge concerning the prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquency or the administration of juvenile justice.
  • At least one-fifth of the membership must be under age 28 at the time of initial appointment and at least three must have been or will currently be under the jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system.
  • The majority of members including the chair, must not be full time employees of the federal, state or local governments.

Entity Powers and Duties, Activity Summary
The committee is the supervisory board for the federal Juvenile Justice Program with respect to preparation and administration of the state plan and award of grants. $55 per diem for volunteer, non-public employees.

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

JJAC’s Annual Activities:

Produce a comprehensive three-year plan for juvenile justice in Minnesota.

Report to the Governor and Legislature on Minnesota’s compliance with the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act's (JJDPA) four core requirements.

Advise the Governor and Legislature in improving Minnesota’s juvenile justice system.

Review, award and monitor federal juvenile justice funds appropriated by Congress
under the JJDPA, specifically, Title II funding.
