Membership

Members are appointed by the Governor and include two members from each of the six Greater Minnesota Parks and Trails Districts and one member-at-large. See the district map: http://www.gmrptcommission.org/our-work.html

Members must reside in the district they wish to represent, which is limited to the 80 counties in Greater Minnesota.

COMPENSATION

Per Diem: $125.00
Other Compensation: Plus expenses; mileage, lodging and meal reimbursement when traveling for meetings.

Entity Powers and Duties, Activity Summary

The Commission will undertake system planning and provide recommendations to the Legislature for grants funded by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, Parks and Trails fund, to counties, cities and Tribal governments outside the seven-county metropolitan area for designated parks, trails, special features and supporting partnerships of regional significance.

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

Conduct system planning and designate regionally significant parks, trails, special features and supportive partnerships in Greater Minnesota. Designation application is open to cities, counties and Tribal governments. Once designated, facilities are eligible to apply for Legacy Parks and Trails grants. Meetings typically last: 10am-3pm

Meeting Frequency: Meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of the month, from 10am to 3pm throughout Greater Minnesota. Meetings are typically held at or near regionally designated facilities so that tours of the facilities may be done upon the conclusion of the meeting.

Total Appropriations: $27,048,000.00

Appropriations Description: Grants funded in FY26 of $13,492,038. Grants funded in FY27 of $11,326,845. DNR takes 2.5% for grant administration.

Fiscal Year Expenses: $429,473.00

Expenses Description:

500,000 in FY26 for operating expenses and 500,000 in FY27 for operating expenses.
