Board membership is comprised of seven members appointed by the Governor.
- Four (4) members shall be licensed, practicing marriage and family therapists (LMFT), licensed at least five years and actively engaged in the practice of marriage and family therapy;
- One (1) member shall be engaged in the teaching and/or researching of marriage and family therapy; and
- Two (2) members shall be representatives of the general public with no direct affiliation with the practice of marriage and family therapy.
At time of appointment, at least two (2) members must reside outside the seven-county metropolitan area and at least two (2) member must be members of (1) a community of color; or (2) an underrepresented community, defined as a group that is not represented in the majority with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical ability.
All members must have been a resident of the state for two years preceding their appointment.
